Stable law & order situation maintained in 2006

ASTANA, 26 December - A stable law & order situation was maintained in Kazakhstan in 2006. Bagdat Kozhakhmetov, head of the press service of the Ministry of the Interior of RK said on Monday.

"The law & order situation remains generally stable in Kazakhstan. The number of crimes in January-November was reduced by 3.2%," - Mr. Kozhakhmetov said.

He said that "there is a tendency towards a reduction in the number of premeditated homicides (-5.1%), infliction of grave physical damages (-1.8%), and hooliganism." Rapes are exception from this tendency, their growth was 2.1%.

From the beginning of the year the police solved 90% of the registered 1,606 premeditated homicides. 89 homicides of the past have been solved as well.

The police suppressed 43 organised gangs. 5,832 of 8,167 wanted offenders have been arrested.

6,457 of 8,050 missing citizens have been found.

Besides, for 11 months of the current year 2,243 armed robberies have been registered against 2,723 for the last year. The crime detection grew from 2.7% to 78.4%. The number of robberies fell by 2.6% - to 11,447 cases.
